When did you begin writing?
I’ve been writing for as long as I can remember, but it became something more intentional in 2024 when I began studying creative writing with the Open University.

Tell us about your Call of the Isles story.
The Island We Left Behind is a deeply personal piece. It was written in response to the sudden loss of my brother in 2012, and became part of my way of processing grief. The story explores how loss lingers, reshapes us, and continues to echo through time.

Do you prefer writing short stories or longer fiction?
I enjoy both forms. Short stories allow for intensity and focus, while longer fiction gives space to fully explore characters and world. I’m currently working on my debut novel, which has naturally grown into a trilogy.

What is your favourite island-set story?
The Lies We Sing to the Sea by Sarah Underwood. I’m drawn to its atmosphere and the way it weaves myth into place.

What do you dislike about being a writer?
Simply not having enough time to write. There are always more stories waiting than there are hours in the day.

What’s your favourite under-appreciated book or story?
The Bloody Chamber by Angela Carter. Its language, darkness, and reimagining of familiar narratives is something I return to often.

What are you currently reading?
I’m currently reading The Book of Dust Volume Three by Philip Pullman.

What are you currently working on?
I’m working on my debut trilogy, The Witch That Never Burnt, a historical fiction project rooted in themes of power, belief, and survival.

What is the best piece of writing advice you’ve received?
If you hit a block, move on. Leave yourself a “to be continued” note and return later—often with clearer direction.
